Update on classes

As Promised I can now give you an update on classes:-

Don't forget the Craft, Crochet & Knitting Class held each Tuesday afternoon from 12.30pm - 3.30pm in the Hub. Anyone interested in Craftwork will be made most welcome and if any help is needed no doubt someone else there will be able to help you.


Friday 21st October 2011 sees the start of a Digital Photography class from 10.00am - 12.00 noon. This class will instruct on the use of Photoshop and the tutor will be Dee McCrellis.


For those who would like to learn about computers we will be holding Start IT classes on Wednesday evenings from 7.00pm - 9.00pm. This will be a basic course and all who come along can be assured of a welcome and help with whatever problems they may face.


If you want to brush up on your Maths and English, these courses will be done back-to-back and will be starting shortly running from 6.00pm - 10.00pm.


Another planned evening class will be our Evening Craft Class which will be commencing in the near future.

Update on classes

Firstly, apologies for the delay in getting some of our classes off the ground this season but we have been experiencing difficulty in securing tutors for some of the courses.
Keep an eye on the blog and watch the local press and we will let you know when the problems have been resolved.

Having said that please note that the FADA group has started up again on Thursday mornings 10.30am - 2.15pm and new members would be made most welcome.
There are also two yoga classes running at the minute, the first on Wednesday mornings 10.30am -12.30pm and the second on Thursday evening from 7.00pm - 8.15pm. Once again all will be made very welcome.

DON'T FORGET THE COFFEE MORNING! This is held on the 4th Friday of each month and is a great opportunity for bringing a friend, meeting friends, having a chat a cup of tea or coffee and scone and buns. Why would you ever want to miss it???

Dromboughil Walks 2011

Once again this year as the evenings lengthened Thursday night became Walking Night. We repeated some of the walks we had done last year but, under the guidance of Dan McGrellis, we found some new ones, some of which were quite challenging but enjoyable.

The wonderful thing was that the weather may not been great some evenings, no walks were cancelled and most nights the sun came out at some point.










Everyone who came along enjoyed the chat, the company, the beauty of nature around them and of course the exercise. No doubt, circumstances permiting further walks will be held next year. Everyone welcome to join us.

The Ducks Came back

On Friday 24th June 2011 we held our Duck Race once again and included a Family Fun and Coffee Evening - all held in the grounds of our Centre.

An inflatable obstacle course and bouncy Castle were supplied by BM Promotions.































You've heard the expression, "Like a kid in a sweet shop!" Well Connor landed a good job - he was in charge of the sweet stall!
















Setting out with the cake for the 'Guess the weight of the cake' competition. The winner of this competition was Esther Dixon who correctly guessed the weight of 5lb 3oz.

The burgers were very popular on a damp, slightly breezy night. Watch out MacDonalds, Cecil Ross is after your empire and Alan was an able assistant.

The weather couldn't dampen spirits. Everyone just dressed for the weather and enjoyed themselves anyway,

A cup of tea or coffee was just what was needed after watching the duck race.
The other competition was 'Guess the number of sweets in the jar' and this was won by Noelle Graham who had correctly guessed 340.

Thank you to all who came along and supported us, took part in the competitions and bought ducks and of course to all those who helped us on the stalls or in the kitchen. It was a very successful night despite the weather and enjoyed by all who came along.

A big day for the Craft Class

Cecil Scott came along to demonstrate how to use the machine to the group with all its extra bits and pieces. Having said that it has a little screen which gives you instructions as to what to do next for certain jobs.








A Long Arm Quilter is essentially a sewing machine which is much more intelligent than your average sewing machine.












He brought along some examples of the work that could be done with this machine.

Ever tried threading a needle from the back of the machine? He kindly had the machine turned round to give the ladies the best possible view and him the worst!

Digital Storytelling.

Over the Winter months a small group of ladies took part in a trial run of a Digital Storytelling course. It was organised under the auspices of Age NI who provided funding and WEA who managed the course. It was designed to allow people to tell their stories and to record them for posterity in the form of a selection of pictures and voice-over commentary.
Dromboughil hosted the Offical Launch of the programme on Friday 13th May 2011 and a number of the participants came along.
